Tab E is a quite a slow android tablet in 2025. However, you can improve the performance to a certain extent by overclocking the processor. This is done by flashing a custom kernel.

This Tab E custom kernel would allow you to achieve a maximum processing frequency of 1.536 Ghz, giving you a much faster device. This kernel works with all the firmwares including the latest stock firmware.
If you are on Android 7.1.2, use this custom kernel link and if you are on stock firmware, use this link. Keep in mind that once you have overclocked Samsung Galaxy Tab E, there may be instability here and there. This is due to high CPU frequency.
Once the reboots are done, we found the system to be quite stable. That said, if you are using ViperOS ROM, there are certain reboot issues. Lineage OS ROMs are said to be working fine with the Tab E.
Good to see a very old android tablet from Samsung still being supported. While its processing power is unmatched with the mid end Samsung tablets, you can overclock it and squeeze some life out of it.
