Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 is around one year old now and many of us are waiting for official Android 5 lollipop from Samsung. Well it is not out now but an XDA user has made a pretty stable ROM that gets the job done. This ROM is based on cyanogenmod 12.1 with some features added from other custom Galaxy Tab 4 ROMs. Here are the installation instructions:

* Make sure you are rooted.
* Make sure you have a custom recovery installed. (TWRP is the preferred recovery)
* Download the latest Bliss Rom from here and the latest GApps package from here.
* Boot into recovery.
* Perform a FULL factory wipe and wipe/system and dalvik cache as a precaution
* Flash Bliss Rom
* Flash Google Apps package (for 5.1)
* First boot may take up to 10 minutes.

That is it, you have downloaded and installed Android 5 Lollipop on your Galaxy Tab 4.

TWRP opens gates for doing all sorts of hacks such as ability to install a custom ROM from XDA and so on. You can also install custom kernels for Galaxy Tab 4 if you have a custom recovery installed.

To install it, download this file and put your Tab 4 in download mode. You can do this by pressing and holding home + volume down button together until your tablet restarts and goes into download mode. Then connect it to the computer and fire up ODIN. Browse for the downloaded file and flash it.

Root Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and Tab 10.1

Make sure your device is in ODIN download mode (you can get there by holding Vol Down+Home+Power when the device is turned off), then start the included Odin3-v1.85.exe file, press the PDA button, select the .tar.md5 file, and click Start.

Tab 4 7 inch models are not compatible at the time of this post.

Performance and Init.D Tweaks for Galaxy Tab 4

To use these tweaks you have your Tab 4 7.0, 8.0 and 10.1 rooted.

Step 1: Install Script Manager from Google PlayStore
Click on link below to go to Playstore and install "Script Manager"

Step 2: Configure Script Manager
Open "Script Manager" and click on menu
Choose "Advanced" — "Configuration"
Choose "SM File Browser" — "Browser Zoom"
Change setting to 30
Press back button one time
Choose "Console" (at the very bottom of the list)
Choose "Font Size"
change to "18 => 54 Columns"
Close out of "Script Manager" for now

Step 3: Download Tab4 Customizations
Download from Downloads tab or
Go to the download link and save the zip file to your PC
Extract the zip file to your PC (Maintain folder structure)
You should have a folder named s5mods (located wherever you extracted it to)
Copy this folder to the root of your Internal SD card

Step 4: Run the customization script from Script Manager
Now go back and open "Script Manager"
Browse to the "s5mods" folder you copied in step 3
Select the s5mods_setup.sh script file
In the row of buttons across the top press the "SU" button (It should turn green)
Click on the "Run" button (Located just above the SU button)
Follow the prompts and reboot your device Twice
Verify that /data/local/init.log and /data/local/S5_Memory_Recovery.log exist

Performance and Init.D Tweaks for Galaxy Tab 4

Here are the instructions to customize the bloatware removal.

Located in "/s5mods/bloat" is a text file named nobloat.txt, Open and review this file it contains a few default apks to remove.

To add your customizations simply add the file name of the apk (Case Sensitive), if the apk also has a corresponding odex file you will need to add the path to that as well following all case sensitive patterns.

Be careful when adding apks to this list if you add an apk that is required by the system to boot you will be required to flash the stock rom and start over from scratch.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 Spotted on FCC website

The launch of Internet multimedia tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 is getting closer as the manufacture has filed its documents to FCC. The one spotted over their website is the LTE variant and bears model number SM-T537V.

SM-T537V will be making its debut on Verizon’s cellular network exclusively in US. There is a chance this LTE model will also make its debut in some other countries as well.

According to some rumors, the device will be launched on April 29. Expected specifications of non-LTE model include quad core 1.4 GHz processor, Adreno 305 GPU and 1 GB of RAM. It will come pre loaded with Android 4.4 kitkat.

The LTE model will come with bigger memory and of course integrated LTE modem.

Earlier today,  we reported that there will three variants of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 – Wi-Fi-only, 3G and LTE. Now, we have spotted that the LTE equipped Tab 4 that bears a model number, SM-T325 on FCC’s website.

The LTE-equipped Tab 4 8.0 features a slightly bigger 8.4 inch display. Rest of the variants have smaller 8 inch display. It measures 219×128 mm.

Tab 4 8.0

This is the first of the three tabs. It will be made available in Wi-Fi-only, 3G and LTE variants and will feature an 8-inch LCD display (1280×800) along with quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB or 1.5GB (LTE only) of RAM, 3 megapixel and 1.3 megapixel cameras, 16GB of internal storage, microSD slot supporting up to 64GB and a 6800mAh battery.

This will come in Wi-Fi and 3G variants. The 7-inch tablet will be very similar the 8-inch sibling but will come equipped with a smaller 8GB internal storage and 4450mAh battery.

This means it will have 7 inch display, 1280×800 resolution, quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 3 megapixel and 1.3 megapixel cameras, 8GB of internal storage, microSD slot supporting up to 64GB and a 4450mAh battery.

The Tab 4 7.0 will be a massive seller as the Tab 3 7.0 was not much of an update above the Tab 2 7.0 as it packed lower resolution display, and slow processor. THe new Tab 4 7.0 has faster processor and better display.

Like its siblings, it will also have Wi-Fi-only, 3G and LTE variants. Like its name suggests, it will have 10.1 inch display and quad core 1.2 GHz processor, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB internal memory with microSD slot and higher resolution cameras (8 megapixel and 3 MP).

All of the tablets will run Android 4.4 Kitkat operating system.
